Choosing new flooring is one of the most significant decisions you’ll make in a home renovation — and one of the most daunting. Walk into a flooring showroom for the first time and you’re faced with dozens of materials, hundreds of colours, and a bewildering range of price points. How do you know what’s right for each room?
This guide is written specifically for Liverpool and Merseyside homeowners, drawing on years of fitting experience across every property type — from Victorian terraces in Bootle to modern new-builds in Lydiate, and from family homes in Crosby to apartments in the city centre. Use it as a starting point, and then come in and see us — because no guide replaces the experience of seeing and touching a material in person.
Kitchen Flooring Liverpool: What to Choose
Best options: Luxury vinyl tile (LVT), SPC click, laminate with waterproof core
The kitchen is the most demanding room in a home for flooring. It needs to cope with water and steam from cooking, dropped items, heavy footfall, and the regular dragging of chairs. It also needs to look good — kitchens are increasingly the social heart of the home, and the floor sets the tone.
For most Liverpool kitchens, we recommend luxury vinyl tile (LVT) — either as a gluedown product like Karndean or Amtico, or as an SPC click product. Here’s why:
- 100% waterproof — critical in a kitchen environment
- Warm and comfortable underfoot, unlike ceramic tiles
- Compatible with underfloor heating
- Extremely easy to clean and highly resistant to staining
- Realistic wood and stone designs that complement modern and traditional kitchens alike
If budget is a key consideration, our SPC click range and Invictus collection offer outstanding performance at a lower price point than Karndean or Amtico, while still delivering a quality result. Laminate flooring can also work in kitchens where the joints are well-sealed, though it remains more susceptible to water damage than LVT.
What to avoid: Solid hardwood is not recommended for kitchens in Liverpool homes — the humidity fluctuations in a busy kitchen cause movement and expansion over time. Carpet is an obvious no.
Bathroom Flooring Liverpool: What to Choose
Best options: LVT / luxury vinyl tile, SPC click, ceramic or porcelain tile
Bathrooms are, along with kitchens, the most moisture-heavy environment in a home. Your priority here must be waterproofing, slip resistance, and ease of cleaning.
LVT is increasingly our most-recommended option for Liverpool bathrooms because it ticks every box: it’s completely waterproof, warmer to stand on than ceramic, available in stone and wood effects that look genuinely high-end, and simple to maintain. Amtico’s Spacia range and our SPC click collection are particularly popular choices for bathroom installations across Merseyside.
Ceramic and porcelain tiles remain excellent in bathrooms, particularly for wet rooms or homes with underfloor heating where the thermal mass of tile works well. They’re extremely durable and easy to clean, though cold underfoot and harder to replace if damaged.
What to avoid: Standard laminate flooring should not be used in bathrooms — the core is susceptible to water damage at the joints. Engineered wood is possible in bathrooms if the room is well ventilated and the product is specifically rated for it, but LVT is a safer bet for most Merseyside homes.
Hallway Flooring Liverpool: What to Choose
Best options: LVT, engineered hardwood, SPC click, durable laminate
Hallways are the hardest-working floor in a house. They take the dirt off shoes, handle constant heavy traffic, and set the first visual impression of your home. Durability is non-negotiable here.
LVT is again a strong option for hallways — its wear layer handles high traffic well, and the waterproof surface means dirt, mud, and wet shoes don’t cause lasting damage. For a warmer, more premium look, engineered hardwood (including our Ted Todd range) is also an excellent choice for Liverpool hallways. Engineered wood is more stable than solid hardwood, making it better suited to areas where temperature and humidity fluctuate with the front door opening and closing.
Whatever you choose, we recommend either a hardwearing wear layer (minimum 0.55mm for LVT) or a strong surface finish (AC4 or above for laminate) in hallways. Our team will always flag this during your free home survey.
Living Room Flooring Liverpool: What to Choose
Best options: Engineered hardwood, LVT, carpet, laminate
The living room offers more flexibility than almost any other room in the house. It’s not typically exposed to the moisture levels of kitchens and bathrooms, and the traffic patterns are lighter and more predictable. This gives you the freedom to choose based on aesthetics and comfort as much as practicality.
Engineered hardwood is our most popular living room recommendation for Liverpool homeowners who want a genuinely premium result. Ted Todd’s collection, available at our Netherton showroom, features some of the most beautiful wood floors on the market — sustainably sourced, available in wide-plank formats, and finished to last a lifetime with the right care.
For a softer, cosier feel, carpet remains a popular choice for living rooms — and our range includes everything from practical, stain-resistant options for family homes to plush, deep-pile carpets for a luxurious feel. Laminate and LVT are also excellent in living rooms for those who want a wood look with easy maintenance and lower cost.
Bedroom Flooring Liverpool: What to Choose
Best options: Carpet, engineered hardwood, LVT
Bedrooms are a comfort-first environment. Most Liverpool homeowners prioritise softness, warmth, and noise reduction in a bedroom — which puts carpet firmly at the top of the list for the majority of situations.
Carpet in a bedroom softens the room acoustically, feels warm underfoot when you get out of bed in the morning, and creates a sense of comfort and relaxation that hard floors struggle to match. Our carpet range includes Axminster, Wilton, and tufted options across a wide range of fibres, pile depths, and price points.
That said, hard flooring in bedrooms is increasingly popular — particularly in Merseyside homes with allergy sufferers, where carpet can harbour dust mites. LVT and engineered wood with a good quality underlay beneath can feel surprisingly comfortable in a bedroom and are far easier to keep allergen-free.
